If you’ve ever felt like it’s too late to pursue your passion, then Nurul Amira’s story is one you need to know. As a graduate of Civil Engineering, this 22-year-old Johorian wasn’t finding much happiness and satisfaction in that field. Knowing that her real passion lied in baking and cooking, she took a brave step and flipped the trajectory of her career by starting her own online dessert business.
“It was hard studying something I wasn’t interested in. This career is my chance to prove to everyone that I can still be successful even if it’s not what my parents wished for me. Because deep down I know that it isn’t the title that matters, it’s about following your true calling.”
To be successful in her business, her passion for baking is a must. But what has surprised her the most is that by following her gut, it has helped her mature into a more focused and successful entrepreneur.
‘It used to be the mere act of baking for family and friends that made me happy. But now, after venturing into my own business, I’ve learnt that every step – from producing, to marketing and even delivering the goods – is what gives me joy. And the happy faces of my customers are just the cherry on top of the cake.”
Right now, Nurul Amira is working on expanding her online business and her efforts have been accelerated by the funds from Kotex SheCan Fund. With the available resources, she’s able to improve the packaging of her desserts, scout for distributors to help reach a wider market and to upgrade the utensils she has in her arsenal. Tapping into the talents of our existing Kotex ambassadors, Nurul Amira will also be taken under Christy Ng’s wings as she learns the ins and outs of entrepreneurship and be empowered to take her baking business to higher grounds.
